Hidden Monster by Amanda Strong

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Hidden Monster is the story of Samantha, a survivor of a terrifying kidnapping, who comes home to find out she is not quite as human as when she left. Strong presents a nice change from the usual YA fare in terms of story line, but for those who love it, the love triangles and ‘oh my god is he good or bad’ conundrum is in full swing.

Hidden Monster : Monsters Among Us - Amanda Strong

An interesting concept, an engaging main character, but I found the narrative a little jumpy, and the character motivation a little unrealistic on occasion.

My main bugbear with this story was that she sprouted her wings but didn’t even stop to worry too much about them or to find out what was happening to her until midway through the book. All she cared about was the school dance and her love interest.

I would, however, recommend this to readers of YA who are looking for a change from vampires, werewolves, and angels.
